Frequently Asked Questions

  • Most of our trips are a one hour drive of Nevada City, California. Some trips take place farther away depending on the season and needs of the group. The lakes we frequent include Spaulting, Englebright, and Scotts Flatt. We take groups backpacking in the Grouse Ridge area to various locations as well as to Cache Creek.

  • Once you are registered we will give you detailed directions to the Synergia campus and ropes course. Parents and other patrons are responsible for their own transportation. If a school bus is used we have an 8 passenger van to shuttle folks from Grizzly Hill School down the road as the turnaround is not possible for such large vehicles.

  • We offer flexible pricing based on the program and number of people. After an initial conversation, we’ll provide a transparent quote with no hidden costs. Generally you can expect to pay between $120-$220 per person.

  • We have canoe and equipment trailers that we pull behind our vehicles.

  • Before every program you will be sent a complete and extensive packet that contains forms to fill out, an itinerary, emergency information, and a packing list. Everything is explained in the packet. Generally, you can keep extra costs to a minimum. Expensive items such as backpacks and sleeping bags can be rented from WILD.

  • At WILD, your physical and emotional safety is our priority. Our Board of Directors and staff are committed to a person-centered approach that ensures individual attention and direct mentorship for every student, parent, and corporate team.

We operate under rigorous risk-management protocols, including daily equipment checks, annual professional course inspections, and mandatory comprehensive ropes course training for all facilitators. As certified Wilderness First Responders, our lead guides utilize the global gold standard for wilderness medicine to ensure a secure environment for every adventure. This is the same level of medical training firefighters are required to have and includes CPR.

  • We provide nutritious meals, prioritizing organic ingredients and sustainable sourcing. At WILD, we teach and practice "Leave No Trace"ethics and minimum-impact travel skills. This philosophy extends to the food we eat: where we buy it, how we prepare it, and our relationship to waste.

Many of our facilitators are skilled wilderness chefs, and our participants consistently rave about the food. By integrating our holistic nutrition principles—prioritizing whole foods—we ensure that every meal nourishes both the body and the land we call our classroom.

  • For groups who choose packages where meals are included, we provide a gourmet, locally catered meals that mirror our "Rooted in Nature" ethos. Expect seasonal salads, high-quality proteins (like chicken, ground beef, or tofu), and whole grains. We avoid highly processed foods and added sugars, focusing instead on flavors derived from fresh herbs and natural ingredients. It’s more than a meal—it’s an extension of our experiential classroom.
